The April meeting was held on the announced day, and it was wonderfully unstructured! We talked about favourite authors, about science fiction conventions, and about our general taste in fantastic literature. As we agreed last month, we also talked about what we have read since last time.
We also shortly discussed an idea to work together with a library or bookstore, and arrange a reading with some local author. That would be a fun thing to do, and we might actually make some real plans in the future.
For the next meeting, we are trying a new thing. The subject is going to be Apocalypse, catastrophies, the end of the world (or some parts of civilization). Read what you like, and we will discuss this topic with starting point in the different examples that we have found in stories and books.
The next meeting will be on May 13 at 7 PM. The location will probably be Second Cup downtown on Princess. (Does anyone else think that the logo of Second Cup looks like Jurassic Park when seen just at the corner of the eye?)
I didn’t get around to write the weekly post yesterday, but here it is.
In a previous post, I linked to some major awards in the field of SF and fantasy. The Canadian counterpart to the Hugo Awards are called the Prix Aurora Awards. People can vote online or on paper against a fee, and the winners are presented at the Canvention, a circulating convention which this year is Keycon 25 in Winnipeg. On the web site you can find the short list for this year, which can be interesting to keep an eye on.
And tonight is our monthly meeting! Hope to see you there (although it’s not too likely that many will read this in time before the meeting). It’s at 7 pm, Second Cup on Princess, downtown.
